I have a 1948 or 49 I think cub and it was running well until the fall. I left it alone for about four weeks and when I tried to start it, it would not start. It has the original 6 volt system and when and when I pull the starter and work the choke on the carb I seem to get a shock as if something is shorting out. In addition the battey which is new drains almost overnight. Can anyone offer me some help?

Norville,

One possibility would be the Voltage Regulator or Cutout. When you start your tractor and the generator begins to putout, a set of contacts close to connect the generator to the battery. When you shut your tractor off and the generator stops, these contacts are suppose to open and disconnect the battery from the generator. If these contacts stick closed, it will keep the generator connected to the battery and run down the battery.
One way to check this is to connect a voltmeter or test light between the Voltage Regulator BAT terminal and the GEN or ARM terminal. Under normal conditions with the tractor not running, you should have voltage present. Start the tractor and run at full thottle, no significant voltage should be present. Shut the tractor off and the voltage should return.

Good Luck,

Kent

I also have a 6v Cub, it doesn't take much to use up battery on those. I would check the switches, both ignition and light for a short, that may give you the shock and run the battery down.
