Some of you may have read my "tractor story" a few months ago called "Keeping It In The Family" which told the story of how my mother and I bought my Grandfather's old "A". Since then, I've been looking for his "H" but no one seemed to know what happened to it. My dad finally remembered someone who might have bought it back in the late 40's. I followed up and sure enough, the old timer (85 yrs old) still had it and offered to sell it to me for $500. It hasn't run in a few years, but the engine still turns over easily. It's completely intact and the sheet metal is in great shape although somewhat rusty. It's always been stored inside, so I have high hopes of getting it restored someday when I have time. It really made my weekend.

I was neighbours for the first 20 years of my life with an H. That tractor is still with its nephew a couple of farms down the road. Its tranny packed it in and the boy tried to rebuild the motor but quit while it was dissassembled and I magine it is hooped. I usta plow in third gear singin "Delila"(Tom Jones circa 1964 or so)thinkin no one could hear me cause of the lack of a muffler. Found out years later everybody within about a mile and ahalf thought the tractor sounded great but for a strange squealing sound which they thought was probably a generator bearing goin out. My Dad had an A, my neighbour a cub, and the other neighbour of course the above mentioned H, and about 2 miles down the road there lived a venerable old W4. This discussion forum is tonic for my soul!

Congratulations on finding and buying your family tractor. I'm still looking for Grandpa's F20. I tracked the second owner from OH to Texas to Georgia. He thinks he sold it to a gas/ hit and miss engine collector in the Canton, OH area. I haven't been able to get any leads from that area. I'll keep on looking.

Congratulations! That has got to be one of the best feelings in the world. I am still hunting for my Grandpa Whitt's A. At least from the description my parents gave me my best guess is an A. It was last seen in Halifax County, Virginia, in the Nathalie/South Boston area. Family down there is also keeping an eye out. The gentleman who purchased the tractor from my parents after my grandpa died restored it in the mid 1970's. Hopefully I will find it someday. -BTD

Wow! Are you lucky or what. I would sure like to find the MD that we had on the farm in Rolla, Mo. Have no idea who it was sold to. With that H engine still loose, you will be able to get it running in no time. Be sure to take out the plugs right away and put some oil in the cylinder to make sure she continues to turn over easy. Wouldn't hurt to change the oil either to make sure there is no water in there. Congrats and good luck!

Congratulations! I have my fathers H and wouldn't part with it for anything. Someone asked me how long these old tractors last. I told him forever.

Enjoy it.
