My 51 Super A has driven a Woods mower deck for the last 2 years with no problems. Last week, I hooked the one bottom little wonder plow behind it to do some plowing. I had problems when the tractor pulled up the slightest of grades with it stalling out. The only way that i could save it was to push in the clutch and it would run fine. If I was going in the downhill direction, and I mean very slightly downhill, there was no problem. Any ideas what is wrong?

Don't know about your SA, but most IH tractors of that era call for an adjustment to the main jet on the carb for heavy work like plowing. Be a good idea to check your owner's manual to see if you don't need to do this to give it enough gas for what you're doing.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is maybe the carb float is out of spec. However you say you have been mowing for 2 years OK. Have you been mowing up and down the same hills? Lift the plow and run up and down the same hills and see what happens. Maybe engine compression is OK running a mower but too low to drag a plow through the dirt. Check it. I'd also check distributor advance. My distributor was totaly shot in the advance dept. Also what gear were you in?

For a sudden change in performance I'd look for partial plugging of the main jet or other fuel restriction. Plenty of gas to run at low load but not enough gas getting through to run at high load.
