I have my eye on a 12ft. disk for my SMTA. The land I work (6 to 10 acres) is mostly light sandy ground. I currently have a 10ft. disk. Is the 12ft to much for the SMTA?

Overhaul my 400 about 6 years ago and put in 4 1/8 high dome pistons in it. Got 15.5 tries on 14" rims on the back and if I put a 1000 lbs. of weight on the rear, it handles a 13-foot JD disk with 18” blades with no trouble.

We farmed for years pulling Kewannee 11' disk in 4th gear with an M. Pulled it with the SM in 3rd gear because 4th was too fast! A good SMTA won't even break a sweat with a 12' disk.

It depends how deep you pull it. my 450 Gas (in good shape) will pull a 12'6 JD aw disc with 18" blades BUT it is a struggle when you put it all the way down in heavy soil,I have to use 1st gear so I pull it with my J.D. 70D.With so little acres you should have no problem if you "feather" it some, and you like to here her "Work", luck!

Actually Dad's SM-TA did a real good job with his Kewaunee 12-1/2 ft. disc. The 14 ft. Krause was a little TOO big, esp. in plowed ground. The SM-TA with the 12 ft. was a third gear onlt deal. When He got the 450 We could disc stalk ground in 4th sometimes.
