I have a tractor, FAA 63216, and I am nearly ready to paint it. However, as I am cleaning I have noticed that the arms and attachment bar, mid-mounted, for attaching the moldboard plows are blue. The ploughs also show some blue. I know that Farmall attachments were painted blue. My question is: What parts of the plow and pneumatic lift assembly are red, and what are blue? Every picture of an A I seen show red for the lift arms, drawbar and pneumatic cylinder. Was just the plough attaching mechanism painted blue? I have read Guy Fay's FarmAll Letter Series Tractors cover to cover, and there is no mention of IH blue on any tractor parts. Last question what is the paint code for the IH implement blue

Not everything was painted blue. Some parts were blue, some red and some cream parts too. Go to the link below and do some research.

Thanks Kendall. I found information on the power lift. Now the dilemma is what color is "Tractor Gray." That is the indicated color of the lift??? I guess I should paint the whole thing Red.

Which decision is showing you tractor gray?

Guy, the part in question is the arm that holds the bar, which is the forward attachment of the plows. The plows are blue as shown in your book, p 39. However, when removing the dirt from the attaching assy. I found a color I thought was faded blue. The International Harvester Paint Comittee Decision #77 indicate that "It is decided that the Power-Lift Attachment for Farmall Tractors will be painted Tractor Gray." Also Decision # 83 indicted that "the braces and trunnion castings will be painted gray..." I believe that the color I have uncovered is gray rather then blue. I am not attempting to do a perfect restoration; rather I think all red is too much. I am looking for things like the plows and maybe the lift, etc. to be another color if IH produced them that way. When I worked on tobacco as a teenager I remember a C with blue and cream colors on the lift and cultivators.

I have very much enjoyed your book and I am pleased you took interest in my post.

The power lift in Decision 77 was dated 1929- it was the gear drive version for the Farmall Regular. I've got a old Pneumatic Liftall cylinder at home that shows a little blue. Carter & Grunewald sells that color paint from one of the original suppliers, otherwise one match is DuPont 24160
