The 574D has a vent tube on the crankcase. This tube has to be clogged to have this occurrence. I am not saying something detrimental did not happen. I am only stating that the tube would have vented regardless. You did not put gasoline in by mistake did you? Vapors igniting in the crankcase would not be vented rapidly enough through the crank vent tube and could cause the situation you described.

Only 25 feet? OK, you should be able to at least double your distance simply by adding a small nosecone and fins to the dipstick. The dipstick will also stabilize in flight thanks to the fins.

The launched dipstick indicates a large amount of pressure entering the crankcase area in a very short period of time. The failure of the valve cover gasket indicates the same thing. A few things could cause this. Worn rings can leave cylinder pressure through into the crankcase, but I would doubt that they could pass that kind of pressure through in such a short time. A major piston failure (hole) could result in this type of pressure. If it is a turbo-equipped model, the turbo could also be responsible.
I would be very careful of doing any rotating until I got in and took a look at things. Probably the easiest way would be to drop the pan and look up into the cylinders from the bottom. Someone else might be more able to assist you with any problems with the turbo if so equipped.
Good luck.

Doesn’t sound good if the piston gap and ring end gap were all in spec when you went through it. I can’t think of how else you could get that kind of pressure into the crankcase without a piston failure. This would also explain the “tightening” and “loss of power” you experienced. I would pull the pan down and take a look at the cylinders from there. Also, check the bottom of the pan for metal or other evidence.
