Resetting H Distibutor

When I put my distributor back on tractor I was diddling around and lost where I had the dist. shaft set. Do I have to find TDC on #1 cylinder to reset the thing?,, thanks for any info.

Yep.

Get number one on TDC compression stroke. Loosen the distributor body.
Turn on the ignition and turn the body until the points spark.
Turn off the ignition and tighten the body clamps. Note the position of the rotor. The post on the distributor cap that lines up with that rotor position wires to the number one plug. Then in clockwise fashion, wire 3, 4, and 2.
