The paint you use depends on what type of paint job you want. Do you want a job that will oxidize and start to fade in a year, or do you want a paint job that'll last as long as you do?

The former paint you can get at you Case/IH dealer, if you want Urathane the correct PPG and Ditzler numbers are: IH50 is 70019, and for the IH2150 which they sell at Case IH is 71310. These numbers can be crossed over to Dupont, or any other number.

I use PPG Omni brand which isn't too bad for price, I did my M last year for $350. But I also used the sanding surfacer on the sheet metal, which isn't absolutely necessary.....Have fun.

What caused the price to be so expensive. I bought an OMNI kit last year for my 100 and paid $104.00 for a gallon of color, hardner and reducer (mixed 4:1:1). Only thing I didn't like was the isocyanates. They are really nasty chemicals.

You used the single stage system. I used the 2 stage,(base coat, then clear coat) I also got a gallon of sanding surfacer, which I'm not using on my Massey Harris. That was the first time using the system, so I included the cost of everything. Also include in that price a gallon of Epoxy Primer, and 20 quarts of catalyst. This time it's costing about $250

When you did use the single stage, how many coats did you apply? I too have been impressed with PPG/Omni, and the epoxy primer is terrific. I'll be painting a '40 B this weekend with the stuff.

I painted it last July. I put on three coats. I'll call it three coats. It was my first time spraying and it was an educational experience. I will have to say it looked pretty good for a rookie. I found it easy to spray.

Dave thanks for helping me out on the paint question earlier. Got the 71310. I saw in your post that you painted your M last year and was wondering how much paint it took you. I got 3 quarts and not sure if that will be enough. Would like to do 3 coats on most of it. Sure was expensive and don't want to have too much left over.

Thanks Tyler

Dave, I'm using the single stage paint. I will have a gallon and a half of mixed paint to spray.

I used a gallon on my M, but you have to figure you mix it 50/50 with reducer, so your 3 qts will give you 1 1/2 gallons of mix....Dave

Grant , go to your I-H dealer, he carries the correct paint for older tractors. I believe it is I-H 2150, but he'll know for sure. I bought paint there for my H and it was the best paint to work with and spray that I've had in some time. Don't forget that the "original" paint on I-H products often turned orange in the sun over the years, just like in the song "Thanks for the meal", the "sun's turned the red paint to orange"
