What is a fast hitch?

I picked up an IH 240 with no attachments and a 5 foot Gannon. I need to connect the two somehow. Since I know very little about tractors, and even less about the implents that attach to them, I thought I'd come here for advice. First, what is a fast hitch. I hear a lot about them on this site and am lost when I read about them. What models were equiped with them. Also, I am looking for pictures that show how my 240 should be configured. I'll have to buy everything I need to connect the gannon and I want to buy the right stuff.
I'm assuming the gannon I have is set up for a 3 point hitch, as there is one connecting point at the top and two on the bottom. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

The gannon I refer to is a box style scraper. I assumed it was called a gannon because the guy that dropped it in my driveway last week called it that. Could Gannon be the manufacturer of the scraper?

BTW, Thanks for the information on the fast hitch. The picture and the information really helped. Pretty soon I'll be an old pro at this stuff. I just found a tractor yard down the road a ways, I think I'll take a day off work this week and go check it out. It should be a fun day if I can talk my wife into letting me take my check book.

Gannon is a brand name of box blades and buckets and such.
Thanks for letting us know.

Yeah, what's a gannon??? The others did not say that the fast hitch was invented, patented and sold only by IH. Because IH would not liscense it, it never became the standard hitch, instead, the 3 point hitch took over. If you want to use 3 pt implements on your 240 you should be able to get a 3 point hitch for it. If you find a fast hitch for it, you can get a conversion kit so that you can use 3 pt implements with the fast hitch.

This is the fast hitch on my 53 Super C. Hope this helps you. The only downside I can see to the point is it is hard in my area to find good imp for it.

A fast hitch is a special hitch that can be coupled together without dismounting from the tractor. The 3 point has to be coupled with the operator off the tractor. The fast hitch is better because it's a little easier to couple up an impliment. Hope that helps!
