I don't understand what you are saying. How do you know the coil is firing? Timing light on the high voltage wire? But no spark to plugs? Again with a timing light? If a timing light doesn't pick up a firing on the plug wires then timing is not the problem. Where is the current going if the coil fires but not the plug? Something shorted out in the distributor?

From your description, you must have a mag that was converted to work as a distributor. If I understood correctly, the coil was firing...the spark just can't find the plugs. This should work...Bring #1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Mark the location of #1 plug wire on the outside of the mag and remove the cap. Now remove the rotor and replace it so it points to the mark you just made. If the impulse is still working, and it was in time before, it should be in time and run. A true distributor doesn't have the geared rotor or impulse.

I am not familiar with the Cub ignition, but on the H there is a keyway that can shear which will throw off the rotor timing. You will probably have to remove the distributor and check connections from the back of the gear towards the rotor. Before you remove the distributor, I recommend you get the number one piston on top dead center on the compression stroke.
