I have 56 low boy fitted with the 5' Woods belly mower. I can't get quite enough power to mow right with. I think this is a 10hp cub, if it was 10-15% stronger it would make a big difference. It seems to be in tune and runs sweet. Any ideas about where I should start? Thanks

If you are doing any mowing in high grass, you might want to look for a Super A or a 140 with a five foot mower.

I've read that making sure that the foward part of the cutting area is a tad lower so that the blades ONLY CUT ONCE help a lot. Tipping the back lower means each blade-of-grass is getting cut again and again..needing more power. R

In addition to sharp blades, grease those spindles too, checking for no resistance. Also, I've read here that cubs need to be in 2nd gear to mow.

The only good way to find out if it is running right is hook it up to a pto dyno, we have been fooled be a nice sounding motor that was down on power 30%. The other 3 posts are all correct. Either find more power or be more effecent using what you have. good luck.

I had my motor taken to a machine shop, it was bored 60 over and used domed pistons from a late production Cub, and the head shaved ever so slightly, and had the valves done, then to top it off use the late production Cub Zenith carb.I belive that the valves are the main thing with a small cubic displacement any power loss there can be critical. After all these things you can adjust your govenor for a few more rpms

Make sure the blades are good and sharp. Given that the Cub doesn't make a whole lot of power, sharp blades require less power to cut grass with.

Ted if you get a chance, you might want to trade that mower for a four footer. That's a pretty large mower for the Cub.
