I was reading an interesting bit of information yeterday about the new IH/CASE SPX 2130 patriot sprayer specifications. They will be blessed with a 125hp JD turbo charged diesel engine. Either Case has finally come to their senses or they have hit rock bottom. I beat I can guess what your choice will be ;^)

Happy trails!

My thoughts are that CNH is probably bringing this sprayer to market on technology that was engineered before CNH purchased Tyler Industries. Tyler used mainly JD engines on their sprayers before CNH bought them out. #1 complaint:No torque reserve. Perhaps Cummins won't rate their 5.9 down to 125 horse. One wouldn't think that retrofitting a Cummins or Cat engine in place of the JD would be that tough.

In my opinion, this looks like another strike against Case IH. It is sad to see the former International Harvester reduced to this. In my little neck of the woods the recent merger with New Holland has sold a lot of new John Deere tractors.

Why would they do that. The SPX 2130 sparyer with a 125 HP rating, and it has a 5.9L Cummins engine. Even you have to admit Burns that the 5.9 Cummins is an outstanding motor, seeings how you have the light duty truck version in your Dodge. The SPX 3150 is running a 5.9 Cummins as well. The SPX 3200B is running a 200 HP 8.3L Case/Cummins and the SPX 4260 is running a 8.3 as well but rated at 260HP. There is no way in they would run a JD engine. The cummins are far suppior. If the JD was so great, then Agco and Case would be running the Deere engines instead of the dual over head cam ISX engine (in the new STX 4wd) N14, 8.3 and 5.9 Cummins engines in the Tractors. There is a reason everyone uses the outsourced Cummins. It's because they are a company that specifically deals with engines only. All their resources are focussed in the area of engines. Besides the John Deere motors are way obselete when compared to the technology in the cummins engines. Just my 2 cents.

Well Lee, I don't know why the decision was made to go with the diesel engine from Deere.

Yes, I am very pleased with the Cummins in my truck. I drive a cummins surrounded by a tin shell called a Dodge. Dodge needs kick in the head if they really believe that most guys buy their trucks because they say Dodge and not because of the Hummin Cummins engine. Go over to the TDR website and ask them. Most guys bought their trucks because of the Cummins engine. Thats the only reason my Dad, 2 brothers, and myself drive a Dodge truck. Remember real trucks rattle

My guess is that the rest of the sprayer was made so well that they had to do something to it to keep Case mechanics with a job!

This forum is for ladies and gentlemen of discerning taste to discuss matters of common interest. We don't go over to the green forum and show disrespect for your quaint little tractors, and we certainly have no interest in your opinion of our fine machinery.

Go back to your green toys and stay there, little boy.

Well sir either Case has lost their marbles or they have recognized (just like Ingersall-Rand did) that Deere does make a quality diesel engines, as does case. Because your red brand has installed a Green designed/built engine, we do have a "common interest". My intentions for the post was based on a point of interest and not to show disrespect for your more than superior tractor. Kind of like Chevy asking Ford to build them an engine for their trucks.

By the way, you Red guys have a "little man" in your ranks because I first heard about this merger on RED POWER'S FORUM. I like the last 7 words.

Does this mean that your "fine machinery" is now a quaint little tractor, too?

Being John Deere is the world's largest supplier of OEM engines for short line equipment manufacturers, and that CASE NEW HOLLAND, (no IH anymore boys, get over it) outsources these sprayers, as well as most of their tillage equipment, because they lack the design or manufacturing capability, they take what they can get. If CNH is still around for the next generation of these sprayers they will probably spec an engine from one of the Italian manufacturers owned by the parent company, or go back to Cummins or Perkins. As it was CNH needed something quick to meet the sucessful market penetration John Deere has had with their new precision sprayers, and they had to take what they found.

Next thing you'll see is CNH will gobble up John Deere. They seem to own everything else!

The JD motors have to go in sprayers. They don't have enough power to put them in tractors. That's why JD puts Yanmar (japanese made import) motors in their tractors.

The first thing that comes to my mind is why does JD have to liquidate their inventory of engines? And why can't Case IH produce enough to meet demand? enough said!!!
