My 1954 100 Farmall has one also and it needs replacing. Seems it has rusted out.

My '53 has one mounted just like you describe. The sender screws in to lower left side of the hydraulic unit at or near the screen. I have never seen mine move off cold. It could be bad. Maybe I've never done enough hydraulics work. What kind of tasks cause high heat in the hydraulics system?

It was an option. Not many had them. I suppose you can get a replacement at the Case/IH dealer.
