My brother and I have a chance to buy a 560 .
The owner wants 2500.00 for the tractor plus it comes with a 4 bottom plow and a 4 row cult. The T.A. is out on the tractor.I was wondering if any one out there think this is a good deal or what.

Gosh, all these Colorado area guys talking about 560s! I haven't seen any 560's sell locally, but saw a 460D go at Centenial's consignment last fall for $1,400. It was painted really pretty and sounded good - I was pretty surprised it didn't go for more.

The $2,500 sounds pretty good to me when you add in the plow and cultivator. I haven't seen 4 bottoms in decent shape go for less than $400.

Phil gives good advice. According to my Dad (Mr. Farmall) the first issues of the 560 were nothing more than a 460 with more motor. As a consequence, the early 460/560 axle housing tended to fail under the increased power output and thus heavier loadings. If indeed it is a "fixed" 560, I would jump on it for $2500.

I just saw a 560 go for $1700 at an auction in eastern Wyoming last Friday. It had a loader, but was a little rough. If I didn't already have a 560, I would have bought it.

Dick, are you from Colorado? I think I saw the same 560 go at an auction east of Berthoud along I25.

Yep. Might be we're comparing apples and oranges a bit. The 560 near Berthoud was a one-owner wide-front with pretty good paint and about 1000 hours on an overhauled engine, as I recall. Tractors seem to go for more near Denver also - surely don't see the prices like in the midwest.

I went to northwest Iowa to get my 560D and paid $2800. I used it this summer to put up hay and now it is the garage getting ready for paint.

Send me your email address dick, and maybe we can link up at a local auction.

Recently saw one go for auction for $1000 more, without the plow or cultivator. Take full advantage of your opportunity to run it and inspect it.

Good luck.

Bill,
Check the S/N plate for a triangle stamped at the end of the S/N. This indicates that the rear axle bearing upgrade was performed by a dealer. This was the weak point of the 560 and if it's been fixed it should be fine. The price sounds ok for a clean, good running tractor with decent tires.

Phil
