I am looking at an International 766 diesel with a serial number 16281. I would be interested in what year that is and what engine it has exactly.

It is a 1975. Their were 2 diesels for it. A 290.8 cu. in. or 360.0 cu. in.

766 came in gas or diesel. the gas was 291.cu.in. and the diesel was 360. both were naturally aspirated. years were 1973-1976

Is the engine model marked on the block somewhere?

I know every D or DT series engine I have seen the Model and serial were on a flat boss on the left side of the block just below the the cylinder head.

For example 468TM2UO879456 THIS WOULD INDICATE IT TO BE A DT466

I think the DT360's I worked on were something like 362HMTUO56340.
Most DT360's (IN THE 1988 AND UP) I saw smoked unless you bumped the timing from 12 to about 15 cleaned them right up.
