I know that a similar question was just asked below, but I want to know what model numbers to look for in hunting a plow. I am wanting a 4 bottom 16 inch per bottom plow. I don't care if it is simimount or full mount, even though if you boys can advise me as to what you all think is better. I just need to know which plow models are best, and a rough Idea of what to expect to pay for the plow. I don't need anything too nice or new, because it will only be used for rolling over and reseeding about 30 acres of hay, or planting an occasional garden. I've just always heard that International made the best plows, and I need to know what to look for since I am not firmiliar with red equiptment. help me get over some of my ignorance. Thanks Greg H.

Olivers have a reputation for pulling easy. We could pull our 4x16 Ollie in the same gear as the 3x16 JD I used to own. Now have an Allis 2000 Monoframe which covers as good as the JD and pulls almost as easy as the Ollie and has better clearance than either. Seems like the IH 700 series and up break beams easy and are expensive to replace but there are an aweful lot of IH's out there.

My first question is what kind of hitch do you have. 3 point or 2 point fast hitch. I got a 412 4-16 for about $400 but, its for a fast hitch and I have seen a lot around. I had to drop the last bottom off due the why the ground around here pulls. It’s a good plow and does a nice job.

Just curious what you're going to be pulling these with. It might also help these smarter guys advise you. Good Luck

I bought a IH 550 4x16 plow a few years back. It is an older model, but works excellent in our heavy clay. I would recommend it. I have seen them priced around $400, cheaper at auctions. Parts are still available, good trash clearance. Stay away from older John Deere's, they tended to pull a lot harder. We had one, but bought an IH shortly after, and couldn't get rid of the JD in our area. Another good one is a IH 700, it is newer, and the price refelcts it.

Up until this year we have been using a 550 4-16 semi-mount and have had very good luck with it, but this fall I made a sharp turn with it and the crazy wheel caught the furrow and i broke the hitch on it, just about climbed up into the seat with me. We then bought a IH 700 semi-mount steerable 5-18. The differece is like night and day. The 700 is a lot bigger and has a lot more clearance for heavy trash situations.
