Hello and thanks to all who responded to my problem with starting my farmall super h. I found
that the valves were open when they were supposed to be closed. This led me to pull the front end
and low and behold, the end of the camshaft, where it is keyed to the upper gear, was broken out, around the key. Crumbled metal all over the place. I dont know why this would happen, but it sure did. Now I've got the next problem. Do I take the shaft to a machine shop and have it welded up, or do I locate a used camshaft ?( note the screw retainer that kept the gear on was stripped out.) I'd be interested in some more of your opinions. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU AGAIN..

Bruce, I would seek a another cam. These old tractors are not the most finely tuned things but the cam gear must go around in a true fashion. As many H's that are out there in parts yards, you should be able to find one for less than the price of gold and then you don'y have to think about whether the weld up job was good or not.

If you can find one used or reconditioned that would be best. But if you have a good machine and welding shop in your area that would probobly work also. I would check into prices and think about how hard you are going to work the tractor
