I have a question on the removal of the idler supports, on the front idler wheel. I have the unit off the dozer, but cant get the supports off the idler,, the manual says remove the supports from the front idler but not real clear ,,

The picture shows some clips on the inside so I am assuming they have to pull straight away from the idler?/ is thsi correct, I tried pounding both ays with no show of movement,,

is there a trick,, maybe they are just rusted and I need to get the heat wrench on her,, thanks for any tips

There's nothing special holding them in. You just need the right combination of heat and force; maybe soaking them in WD40 would help.

Thanks charlie, I ended up getting them off yesterday, I only had to prop the one end of the support on a 8x8, and hit the other end with a sledge, that loosened it enuff to get it off.

I do have a question maybe you know,, the diameter of the idler hole is between 1/8 and 3/16" larger than the diameter of the shaft,, It does not look wallered out,, is that the space for the bushing that my book shows that was non existant when I removed the unit??

I come up with a measurement approx 1- 11/16 on the hole,, thanks pat

Yes. It would be great if that hole is not worn, so that the original bushing, which was available last time I needed one, will still fit snugly. The other issue is the seal system. Those seals are available (and I seem to remember a post here with a source for cheaper ones) but they only work if they face up against a nice smooth face. Some of us who don"t use the machines that much have installed zerks where the oil or Lubriplate 5555 is supposed to go in the hub, and then we just pump more grease in periodically. But if you can machine the face smooth, you would do well to follow the original design.

I'm not familiar with the 340, but the photo appears to show a right-hand thread. Is the center perhaps screwed in?
