I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I just obtained a 235 this weekend and I am getting ready to fix some leaks and one has me scratching my head. On the top of the final drive or track drive motor case there is a pop off valve or some sort of pressure release valve. There is one on each track motor. It screws right on top and has a very low spring pressure valve that looks to be designed to open and release hydraulic oil out of it as a pressure release. Its not very impressive or large. Looks like a large tire valve stem that works in the opposite direction. One of them is releasing oil when that track is engaged. I swapped the valves from one side to the other just to see if it was bad or weak this track side still leaks with the other sides valve as well so its not the valve itself. What would cause this valve to open? Maybe a return line problem or something? The leaking track motor still moves back and forth but it spews out oil pretty bad from this valve.

It can be one of 2 things, either the track motor is leaking more than the case drain line can carry away,or the brake is leaking. When you operate the travel pedal,it releases the brake then engages the drive. Maybe just unbolt the motor with the lines still attached and slide it away from the final, and have someone try the travel on that side while you watch. If it is the motor,it will leak around the shaft seal,if the oil is coming out of the final housing the brake needs to be resealed. You also may want to check the oil in the final and make sure it hasn't been overfilled by the leak.

Most likely the brake seals Nick. Final drive will be overfull too. Check other finaldrive if it's above plug level reseal both brakes. Watch the housing the brake piston is in. A lot of the times meatl gets in and works under the piston, gouging out the bore seal works in. You could get that spray metaled and polished up. Brake discs are likely worn out on that side too.
