Hello again, My crawler / loader /backhoe, has developed a leak from the hyd tank. this is coming from the unedrneath side. At this time it looks like a R & R of the tank is going to have to happen. I thought I was going to find a hose / coupling at fault, but after alot of cleaning I still cannot see the leak.

Before I jump into this, Any advise from others who have been here done that?

I did a search and some, quite a few comments wouldn't come up. I did read a comment from MAX regarding repairing aircraft tanks. This tank is bolted in pretty solid and the underneath side is inaccessable (except to take it off.
The only experience I have had w/tank repair was when I had a full head of hair. It wasn't sucessful.

any advise is welcome, as I don't want to do this more that once.

thanks...sl

Steve,
Sorry I have not done this already, but before I'd go through the trouble of pulling the tank, I'd take another crack at finding the leak.

That tank is pretty thick so I'd suspect a leak where there is a fitting. If not that, look at the tank mounting points.

You might want to run the machine while looking for the leak, as this should pressurize the tank and make it more prone to leaking.

If the tank is somehow rusted through (hard to believe), I'd look for a new one instead of trying to fix it.

Best of luck,
John

Thanks for your input Jon, Will do as you suggest. As you mentioned, Rust does not seem to be the problem in either tank. As far as pressure, there is a vent near the top located in the control valve housing under the drivers right hand side that would relieve any pressure in the tank. I have thought of closing off all of the ports and pressurizing the tank. There are a lot of ports and accessibility is tight. I've been waiting for it to leak out thus leak down to the level of the "wherever it is leaking from" for a clue. I'll post back when I find more info...sl
