Does anybody have any idea on the proper( or any other) method of rotating the flywheel for valve clearance adjustment on the JD 410? there is a procedure in the service manual using a small access port on the left side of the motor. Bring #1 to TDC, install pin into hole in flywheel and do adjustments. How do I turn the flywheel? With the starter? the access port in the motor is pretty small. Thanks for any ideas

I'm guessin' you dont have enough room to put a pipe wrench on the pump drive off the front of the crankshaft, if not you could remove the starter to gain access to more flywheel teeth, I wouldn't recommend turning it with starter.

If you remove that small cover , there is enough room to fit a large screwdriver or small prybar in there to rotate the engine. Its an awkward position but "do-able"....Raise the loader all the way and install a locking bar ...better access..
