I recently bought a Case 1150B crawler loader that seems to be in very good general condition. However, I drove the crawler about 1,000 feet to my barn and the hydraulic oil tank and control valves became quite hot. Upon checking it was evident that the oil level was low (it had been mainly setting for the past year or two) and I have filled it with approximately 8 gallons of oil to bring it up to cover both eye observation points. After leaving the crawler run for a quarter hour it did not seem to be a problem. Is it likely that the low oil level was the only problem and could I have caused any other damage by moving the machine a little less than a quarter mile?

As long as you didn't work the hydraulics, kept it on level ground, it shouldn't have hurt anything since the tank was still close to being half full. With the normal flow of the pump, the oil is changed in the tank three times every minute at full throttle so in your case the oil was changed 7 times every minute which explains the heat buildup. Hopefully, this helps.
