...As in earlier postings I told of my HD-11E slinging #5. So the saga continues. Today I finally got the engine out and into the barn (with a large hole and a "shiny thing" hanging out behind from starter). Options:

#1. Seal weld a "band-aid" over the hole, turn the crank down .010, replace the "shiny thing", and put her back together. The problem is that, although no oil passages were damaged, about 1/4 of the cam bearing boss disintegarted with the excapeing #5. Possible cam bearing breakdown? I can patch the hole, but I worry about cam bearing problems.

#2. My father has a 671 detroit that purrs like a kitten. I know it would be somewhat of a job to put it in, but, as said in the Bible, "with a torch and a welding machine all things are possible"....(book of Job, check it out)....
Anyway, I caught the end of something earlier about a 671 not fitting between the frame rails. Is that so? If you calculate in a free Detroit 671, deduct the man hours, (I don't pay myself), and multiply by the fact that I just refilled my gas and air bottles, tell me, is putting this 671 in really impractible?

I don't want something that looks like a cross between "Mad Max" and "Green Acres".... But I'm pretty handy at brute force fabrication, and I have the time here lately, so any suggestions (and sneers and crack shots) would be appriciated.

More on this never ending situation later. And by the way, to thosethat remember my posts of November and early December, (and those that want to check the archives),the "Mystery Oil Tank" is/was the holding tank for transmission oil. (It's not automatic, but it does/did have and oil circulation system). The hoses going up to below the injector pump were to a pump running off somewhere in that greasy area.

Thanks..

Kevin

My dad and I have a HD11E so I have a small stock of knowledge to draw from. I think that the 6-71 will be just a bit to long for the application. Also the horse power increase may become a driveline problem. The 6-71 is 2 stroke and even in it's most innocent form, no turbo, the engine will make 225+ HP if it came from a truck application. I have Allis in the shop and a GMC dump truck at my shop with a 6-71 in it so I will measure tomorrow and run some numbers for you. Any thoughts on mine ? C U tomorrow.

I think it would work check the length I think the 6-71 is longer that is if it is a in line if it is a v then just take some measurements. If all else fails lift the motor up real high and drop it it will fit then you figure out how to get it running after that. Dave
