Who makes a better small dozer these days, all things considered? Price, resale, parts availability, and frequency of repair.

Seems like you see a lot of Deere and Case machines around on the low end.

As far as size goes, I was thinking D3 size or thereabouts.

My guess was that if you forgot about price and considered only stuff made in this country, the rankings would be Cat, Case and then Deere. If money tied up in a machine meant anything, I would guess the order would be reversed.

On the ag side, Deere has impressed me with their parts support. From taking a couple diesel rebuild courses, Cat has impressed me with how much they think their parts are worth. And Case I don't know about.

Thanks for the input.

It depends on what you call small, and what year models you are looking for. Before the mid 80'S you can't beat a D3 or D4 CAT. Today the small John Deeres are in my opinion better operating machines than the cats. But definately get a CAT if a D5 or larger machine is needed. Stay away from the Komatsu, Case, etc. later john.

I would definatly stay away from case, If you are planing on owning it for more than a few years. We call case contractor's machines, they will work good for about 5 years or so and then you can count on a major rebuild of some sort so the contractor will sell it to someone that will fix it and use it for another 5 years ect ect. maybee they are not all like that but case is an inferior quality machine. That is just my oppinion.

I'm just a CAT man. JD and Komatsu are OK, Case is just a cheap way out. Now answer this, How many CASES and JD'S and 'matsus do you see on the big grading jobs, compared to CAT.

John its VERY plain to see you are a CAT man.
and hey thats cool,to answer your question, the reason you see CAT at all the large jobs, as well
you know, they are the world leader in const. equipment. When you look at small contractors
there are a boat load of case J.D. etc. because
small contractors cant always afford the cat
price tag. as far as quailty each manufacture has
there problems, even cat had problems keeping
undercarraiges together on there first bunch of
hi drives. and there effort of copying internationals hydralic steering, tiller steer
i think was there name for it.
it did not impress me. my old 1958 IH td24
still steers better than they did.
but my brother owns cat equip. 2 d9g's and a 637
scraper and a 666 old cat scraper and they
still work great. but he tell me if there was
a komatsu dealer around he would sure give them
a try.

Drive them all, consider your dealer and service. But all things equal, I think you'll find the Case to be just a little better machine, from a design and ease of use standpoint.
