Case 430 Steering woes

All,
I've recently purchased a gas Case 430 with narrow front. This is the first Case I've owned, (I'm more familiar with the Farmall H, M, B and JD B) With those other tractors, they seem to steer quite easily while the tractor is in motion. The Case, however, seems to require ALOT of effort to steer even when moving. Is there anything to look for or adjust? Was power-steering an option on these tractors? Can an afterfactory one be added? Please help!
Thanks
DJL

Hi, I have a 61 430L wide front manual steering, my steering was getting tougher all the time . The problem turned out to be the u joints on the steering shaft. They are sealed units so I soaked them in diesel to loosen em up then soaked them in oil , been workin fine ever since. Good Luck. John in B.C.

What tires do you have on the front. My LA had 7.00 by 16 truck tires as soon as I replaced them with 3 rib tractor tires the steering became a lot easier. Also set the pressure at about 35 lbs for the front tires 12 to 14 for the rear.
