I thought that this would be a good place to look for some answers on a 6 volt system even though it is not for a case tractor. I have a 55 T-bird that I can"t get the charging system to work on. I took the generator in and it tested OK. I replaced the voltage regulator. The battery holds a charge. Everything worked fine last year. I am stumped. My next step is to start tracing wires and see if there is any damage to one of them. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also this is a negative ground system. Thank You.

Michael

Check the battery ground cable to make sure it is not rusty where it attaches to the car body. Did you follow the instructions that should have came with the voltage regualtor on polarizing the generator? Are you sure you have the correct voltage regulator for the generator that you are using? Does the car's ammeter show discharge when you turn your lights on?

Are you sure it is Negative ground? I do not profess to be a T-bird expert, but I do know that some old Fords used positive ground systems.

First off I am almost positive that a 1955 Ford is a 12 volt system. Generator type. Walt
