The 420 is a good little tractor. My father bought one about 10 years ago. We repainted it and fixed it up. It has a pretty strong engine, it will always spin out before the engine bogs down.

I have a picture of it on my website.

I know just how you feel. After collecting 10 Case tractors (1951 - 1954) I accepted a friends offer of a free White 2-105. I figured since I was going to stray I might as well stray in a big way. I do kinda like the smell of diesel in the morning.

The 420 is a good little tractor. It's probably one of the last good series that JD made. I have had JD guys tell me that the "4 digit" series tractors that came later weren't very good. My dad said that he started to buy a 420 back when I was a kid. I sometimes wonder if I might have been a "green guy" today if he had? Surely not!

My Dad and grandpa were torn between colors back in 1964. The 4020 was cheaper by atleast a thousand bucks, and they still came home with the 930. Just think, if they would have come home with the 4020 I would have never known what gear burger sounds like.
