Yes, Case did change production of the 164 from dry sleeves to wet. It was after production of the tractors utilizing the 164 ended though. I own one and as far as I can tell, it was a complete engine purchased from Case in the mid 60's. I have scoured all avenues and never came up with OEM sleeves. The parts book shows two sleeves, g2020 and g2002. Just goes to show don't ever say never when it comes to CASE. JR

According to a 1989 Parts Substitution manual:

Kit p/n G2002 was changed to p/n G11828.

p/n 2020 is listed as "a part used within kit number G11828".

No other info here, clear as mud.

We have had a couple of tractors thru the years that had them. We only have worked one and just ringed it and ground the valves. But they look the same to me except no plate on the side of the block. Thad

Martin,

600 has a 164 engine and is not sleeved ,it's

one of the very few engines that case made that

was not sleeved .

Why do you need one ,worn or broken ?

George!! I'm surprised!! You're the one we look up to!! The 164 is CASE's only dry sleeve engine.

John: Aren't the R series dry sleeve engines? Of course, they did buy the engines from Waukesha.

As far as I know, CASE never made a "replacement" wet sleeve engine for the dry sleeve 164. 201's, 188's, 159's & probably 148's have been substituted in for the 164.

John,in Oct. of 1962 Case issued service bullentin No.68-61 covering short block assemblies.short block No.G-10510 is listed as the 164 cubic inch wet sleeve replacement for 350,500B,600B tractors. I bought an engine with the two bolt starter flange,it has a place that looks to be for a fuel pump. They claim the engine came out of a 600B tractor.
