im about ready to buy a pulling tractor. i know i want to get a case pulling tractor. my neighbor has two tractors for sale for the same price. he has a case 870 and a case 1030. the 870 has no cab and is a gas tractor. the 1030 is a diesel and a cab. but i don't know wich one would make the better puller. so if you can help me pick the best one for pulling let me know.

i plan to pull this tractor in our farm stock pulling class at our fair. i plan to just pull any class i can get in. the rules are the tractor must have the same block to pull in farm stock and must be under certain rpms to in some devisions. i have a turbo off a detroit that i planned to put on the 1030. but the guy told me that the 870 has some kind of special head that if you do something special it would woop the 1030. so if you can help me pick the best one let me know.

Yes the 870 has desireable heads for a build up. Unless you want to spend alot of money on the 870 the 1030 with the turbo will out do the 870. My pick between the two would be the 870 if it was a diesel. Put a turbo set up on it from a dozer and run the fuel screw all the way in. We are currently building a 336BDT for our local superfarm class. We have put it in a 830 eaglehitch rearend. The motor is highly modified so it should be a load of fun at 6000lbs. Good luck on what ever you do. Thad

I am fan of 1030's but they have some problems. I know that they are weak in the rearend with increased power and have a tendency to crack heads (especially with straight pipe exhaust.) The 870 is a nice tractor, never played with a gas but the diesels were good solid tractor but getting harder to find parts for. For pulling I would lean to the 870 in lighter classes. My 2 cents

I guess we need a little more info. What weight classes do you intend on pulling? What are your rules as far as modifications that can be made to the tractor? Thad

Well I am partial to the 1030's but it would be the better choice mainly because it is a diesel. Just my 2 cents. Brian
