My case 430 [Diesel]does not have power steering but does have hydraulic lift [bucket] also 2 lines going out the back for auxillary machines if I purchase the manual steering pump located on the steering colum and hook up this pump using the live hyl from the back and connect it to a two way cylinder will this work it seems to me the hyl pump works whenever the tractor is running

Re: Case 430 power steering using system hydraulic in reply to Barney#2, 05-02-2006 11:45:51
One slight problem: The hydraulic system (three point or remote) only works when a control lever is moved into a forward or rear position. You would need to make a device to hold the hydraulic control lever in a position to allow constant flow. That's NOT advisable. You would be better off finding a stock power steering unit in a salvage yard and installing it on yours.

Though the 430 had a separate steering pump and system, but I can't see why you couldnt hook up a power steering system off the hydraulics. I'm not sure that hooking it up to your remote lines makes sense, you may need to use them sometime. Put a tee fitting in the main line to your loader or something and run the steering off that. I'm not sure of your setup, but running the loader might cut off flow to the remote lines, so if they fed your steering, using the loader could give no flow to steering. Also using the hydraulic system to run the steering could cause you to steer poorly while running your loader. If you can get and mount a PS pump to your 430, as well as a manual steering pump then you could have the original setup which will work better, however with some ingenuity you might be able to make it work well off the other hyd. pump.
