Does anyone out there have a quick rundown on how to time a fuel pump on a old case 930. it says i have to set it to 30 deg. tdc, i have found all the required markings? Is there a quick method to know if the diesel number 1 is at tdc without ripping a valve cover off or am i reading to much into the TDC for a fuel pump?

If you removed pump an did not check position ( put crank at 30dbtdc an hve 2 marks lined up in inspection hole) only luck will have it at right position with out checking if no 1 cylinder is at tdc.On other hand if you didnot remove it just turn crank to 30degree mark an check that 2 marks are lined up in inspection hole-if not loosen pump an turn till they do.If you removed pump an did not check you only have to remove valve cover -hand turn crank till both valves are loose than turn crank short distance to 30degree btdc an install pump an line up marks in inspection hole
