Is any contemplating making new coils for the JMA or type 41 mags? I have about 30 mags laying around and everyone has an internal short and they lose spark after running for awhile. I can get a few nos coils for the JMA but the last one I bought was $85.00 2 years ago and I don't like putting a fairbanks coil in the 41, though it does work. I researched getting someone to do it but have no takers.

Rewound coils have been available for some time now but many think they are too high I guess? About $110 to $125 for Case 4JMA and 41 exchange rewound coils. Several of us rebuilding mags have been using those in repairs and supplying them for years now. You can retrofit a FM coil or some other into the Case mags but they won't be near as hot as with the original type coils or new rewinds and must be mated with the correct capacity mfd microfarad new or rebuilt condenser for the hottest spark. A good Case mag rebuilt right can put out more fire than a Wico. Only other coils I have found to fit in the Case 41 mag are some from Case and Slick aircraft mags but those are getting hard to find NOS and ones from aircraft parts places are too high at $300 or so. Those can be used in the 4JMA also but the finger laminations on housing poles have to be sawed off flat and then some clamps made to hold the new coil lamiated pole in place. What someone needs to make is new points, dist. caps, and dist. rotor discs for the Case 4JMA and 41 mags. Case & Slick supposedly destroyed the old molds and tooling to make those so someone has to start from scratch and they won't be cheap to make.

I had a guy on one of the magneto repair web sites tell me that he could rewind Case magneto coils, but I don't remember the price.

Is there a website out there with an exploded diagram of the magneto parts? I don't know that much about the internals of the Case magneto, but don't know why it couldn't be converted to work with Wico parts (which are cheaper and more widely available).

Finding a way to retrofit them is on my to-do list also, but I probably won't get to that project until my Case mag fails.
