Temperature Gauge - Case S

On my Case S there is round gauge that I assume is a coolant temperature gauge. There is a long wire connected to it, that has a threaded fitting on the end. The threaded fitting has a metal bulb about 1" long by 3/8" diameter on the end. I assume this is some kind of a temperature sensor, but it just dangles there tucked out of the way. Where should this thing be connected? Also another of my Case S (a 1952 model)has no oil filter, is this how it should be or some 'modification'?

Thanks Tis for the location, and all for everything else. I suppose the oil screen worked fro 50 some years and will continue to. I hope to see the two old Cases crank this summer.

The case tractor did not come standard with an oil filter it was an add on. About half of them have one and the other half don't.
Clean and check the screen in the crankcase when you change the oil in the engine its real easy and the gasket can be made from stock material that you can get at any auto parts store.

I think I have noticed the triangular oil pump screen, only didnt know what it was. It that screen suffecient to filter the oil? If I get the machine running well again and put her to work should I add a filter?

it has worked well for the past 50 some years just as long as you clean it regularly there shouldnt be a problem
the book says every 250 hrs to clean it with gasoline in a bucket i suppose some other solvent would work as long as it is dry when replaced

thanks for checking that for me, tis 24. I know the oil filter is in the can above the starter. One of my Case S has this can filter, and the other does not. The one without the filter is a 1954, is that how it was built, or has someone removed the filter assembly?

on some of the older tractors in the s series there is only an oil pump screen on the left hand side of the oil pan it is sort of triangular with three bolts in it also if you have an s model you may have to raise the left front tire to get it out past the radius rod i dont know when they started putting the filter on the side so maybe this will help
