Thanks to all of you for your assistance on my issue with the coolant overflow! The tear down for a head gasket problem will be the last thing in line! The suction leak in the water pump is a real possibility, as well as possibly the same issue in the rad. core itself, since as we all know, it"s not a pressure system. I"ll check "em all out, and get back to you with who the winner idea was! But first, one more question: Do you recommend using ANY type of anti-freeze/boil, and/or pump lubricant(other than the external grease fitting on pump) in the summer months? Thanks everybody, I owe you all one or two!!!

I agree with Walt... if modern antifreeze had been available when these tractors were built, they would have used them. Some of the maintenance information I have seen indicates that water was to be used but they recommended additives for lubrication and rust prevention.... just like you get from good antifreeze. So I use antifreeze in AZ since it prevents corrosion.

Same questions apply when discussing detergent vs. non-detergent oils. Use the best you can get and change it regularly.

Dad always says oil is cheaper than parts.

Just my $0.02

These tractors were made when we used alcohol a antifreeze. You probably heard about people getting drunk on antifreeze and wondered why.

You can run them on just water and drain them in the winter but really if you get the system all cleaned up then why not add 50/50 glycol type antifreeze and water just keep it in nice condition. it really makes sense and cost very little compared to doing the job all over next year.
Walt PS I cleaned my LA two years ago and it still looks nice.
