Could anyone give some advise on a brush hog for a SC? I am going to put my '49 SC wide front to work this year, I spent all last summer restoring it to being mechanically sound, I replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, carb, voltage regulator, generator, starter, manifold, exhaust, gauges, completely rewired, oil, coolant, sheet metal, lights, tires, PTO shield, tool box, battery tray, battery, I've got a few more things to do but all she really needs now is new paint and some decals. She's running sweet and starts right up. I bought to use not for show, and I'm fixing to put her to work brush hogging and mowing. Here is my question, I have no 3 point hitch, so I'm looking at a pull behind "King Kutter" at Tractor Supply Company, I'm thinking the 5' would be about right. 6' seems too big and the 4' would be too small for the SC. Am I correct in this assumption?

I would go with a 6 ft. one. If you happen to get into some really heavy grass, just don't make a full width cut. Buy a PTO anti-overrun clutch. They are only around $70.

it is all according to what you will be cutting and the acreage. the 6 ft will probably be close to the width of your tire tread, which makes it nice to not have to overlap as much. you might just have to go in a lower gear. i pull a 6 ft with a 1943 b john deere. good luck.

Dan, I run a 6" King cutter behind a VAC. Works ok. If you don"t have live power you need a over running clutch on pto.
