I looked at an old 430 several months ago for sale for $1200.00. A fairly decent looking old diesel tractor but two problems concerned me and I did not pursue it. The motor had a putting sound I was not sure about and the hand clutch would not release. No matter how hard you pulled on it it would not release. I drove it around a little and the gears and transmission seemed tight and quiet. Also the lift worked good. Good wheels but tires were not much. The owner called me tonight and offered me the tractor for 900.00 since he needed money. I know that sounds cheap for a 430 but I am still concerned about these two problems. Anyone know these tractors well enough to venture a diagnosis on what might be wrong. I am thinking maybe a bent push rod on the engine noise, and maybe the hand clutch is just adjusted too tight. If this should be the case it would be a great deal but Im worried that the problems may go deeper than that. I know it is my decision but a little input from anyone who knows these tractors would make my decision easier. Thanks for your help.

I like the sounds of it. Good price for sure, even with those problems. I don't know - but is it a big deal for the hand clutch to be stuck? Sounds like you could still use it. I'd have taken it at the earlier price so . . . 900 is good.

It does sound like a valve may not be seating on it that would requir pulling the head and sending it out if you can't do it yourself. The clutch I would think is most likely just stuck they get that way if left to long engaged. I would think it would not be much of a problem. I'd offer $600 and work up from there. Walt
