I recently bought a VAC with a wide front. While I have 2 C's and a SO, I don't have a clue of how to engage the pully on the VAC. It spins freely. Can anyone tell me how to engage it? Thanks

It is held disengaged by a pointed setscrew and a jam nut. Loosen the setscrew and push the whole assembly in. Don't turn the whols assembly ot you will not be alined up to lock it down again. You might have to rock the pulley to get the teeth to engage. The setscrew tightens into a tapered hole to hold it. You might have to turn the setscrew all the way out to see hole if lined up with the setscrew.

Pully now will work with the clutch.

While this is true on the VAC with just the belt pulley without a hydraulic pump under it I"m pretty sure it"s not true for the VAC units that do have the Piston hydraulic pump under the belt pulley. Research on my 46 VAC and manuals show that the setbolt on top of the hydraulic pump is used to disengage the hydraulic pump cam followers from following the cam driving the hydraulic pump pistons. Also having obtained this tractor from my uncles as the second owner, my uncles ran quite often ran one of their 3 VACs with the belt pulley off. Since they used one of the little VACs (without live PTO)to run an Allis Chalmers Roto Baler, one had to clutch and shift to neutral when a bale was finished. Once the bale was kicked out the operator had to push in the clutch, shift back into gear and continue on forward making the next small round bale. Each time the clutch was pressed in the flywheel effect of the still spinning belt pulley kept the input shaft of the transmission still spinning, so the gears would tend to grind if you didnt"t wait for the belt pulley to stop. To minimize this effect my uncles usually removed the pulley on the tractor they were using on the Roto-Baler.
