I have two vac tractors, that i am trying to find the year of. I have read that they started production on these in 1942, and until 1947 they used a continental engine.I have also been told that it was 1947 when case started hydrolics on the vac. My problem is this. Both of these tractors need to be overhauld. Neither one has the dash tag,or a hydrolic pump. Both are case engines. there is no filter plate on the tork tube.Does anyone have any ideas on how to pin down the year made. the only numbers that i can find are on the engine, to the left, and above the oil filter. one starts vac124. The other is vab124. any thoughts on this? Thanks Rick

The general rule of thumb regarding year of your tractors was that the steering gear changed from being in the torque tube to the front end after 1950. Prior to 1946, the VAC was not equipped with hydraulics. So if your tractor has no provisions for an eagle hitch, your model was built between 1942 & 1946. if there is a place to bolt an eagle hitch, it was built after 1946 but installed as an option until 1949 when it became standard equipment. If there is no place to mount the pump on the front right side of the engine then the optional "Kingston piston pump" was available and incorporated into the side pulley stub.

I haven't seen a VAC made in 1948 or after without some sort of hydraulic pump. They don't even have the pump that runs off the belt pulley shaft?
