I have the type of hydraulic system located underneath the belt pulley. Was plowing snow and lost fluid through the hydraulic cylinder. Installed a new leather cup and replaced cylinder and filled with fluid, but I have no lift--no pressure from the pump. I bled the system with bleeder valve, but still no action. With hose disconnected and engaging the lever, nothing happens. Anybody have any ideas? I've replaced the cups before after losing fluid and it always started right up. Do I have an internal pump problem? Comments please!!

DON, I DONT THINK YOU HAVE TO SPLIT IT TO REMOVE SHAFTS FROM TRANSMISSION, SHOULD ALL COME OUT THE TOP BUT TO ADJUST THE LASH OF THE BEVEL PINION IT MUST BE SPLIT TO SHIM THE SHAFT, BUT MAYBE NOT NESSESARY FOR A PLAY THING TOM

If you continue to have trouble with piston cups ,lookup Chesterton packing company. The have a superior line of hydraulic cylinder packing.

I used a brake cup. I worked for about a year then blew out. I use it to lift my belly mower. I wouldn't recommend using one.

Keep cycling it. Prolly not much wrong with the pump. Once those piston pumps loose their prime, they can be a sunnovapup ta get goin' again. Find a hose right size and put air pressure on the fill hole (not much 5-10#). Also have cycled a loader; once by jacking with a floorjack to get it to prime.

Actually didn't spend much time trying to bleed it. So that might be the problem since I think the fluid pretty much emptied out. I'm sure getting tired of replacing those leather cups from Case-IH and they just don't last. Saw a posting by MJ about a fibrous rubber cup--I'm going to order one of those. Do I disconnect the output hose and open bleeder valve while I pump air into the filler hole?

Actually, i didn't have the hyd. hose off, when putting air on it. Just the bleeder open, lever pushed up to start and running slowly. Shut the bleeder while oil is runnin' out. (tight). Did see where someone put a brake cylinder cup in there.

Well, I'm back in business. Actually had to uncouple the hose before it would take hold, then it shot oil over everthing. Anyway, thanks loads for the tips, esp. abuout the air. Don't want to run that dry again. Yes, I know about the rubber brake cups. Mine lasted only a few days and I blew the top out. There's got to be a better cup out there. Called the number MJ posted in April and it's out of service. The web has a lot of hydraulic supply places, so will give that a whirl. Thanks again!!!

I'll check up on that number and post the results here ASAP. These guys charge about $10 a cup but I know thay aren't paying but $3.50 or so...I just can't get a number to source at a dealer/wholesale price.
