does anybody have a power steering pump for a case 311 what I need is the gear or maybe someone could measure their gear so I know what size I need to look for. I am talking about the orginal that drove off the gov gear in the front of the engine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am rebuilding the engine on a old 300 or 311 on the tag. It has a CharLyn power steering motor with a case pump that looks the same as a 430 or 530 and 630,I can check the gear for size tomorrow.

I checked the pump today the gear is 2 inch across with 14 teeth i did not chech how wide the teeth was,it wasn't as wide as the cam gear teeth. I am also working on a 530 case it has the same PS pump, it is a small gear and it is not in the center of the pump it is offset to be closer to the cam gear i think any PS pump from a 430 530 630 or 470 and 570 gas or diesel will work on your 311.

Wayne, do me a favor if you get time and remeasure that O.D.

I bought the same pump off a non-running salvage 610B and mounted it on my '56 model 310. Pumps good but runs gear mesh noisy.

I took the same pump off my '59 311B and mounted on the 310 and it runs fairly quiet.

I have had both these pumps apart and know it is not an internal pump noise and there is no abnormal cam gear or pump drive gear wear.

The gear on the noisy pump is 1.9" O.D. x .9" wide with 14 teeth. Appears to be the right gear but if yours is 2" then mine has way too much backlash.

Joe

Thanks Wayne, I am in the same shape, the quiet pump is now installed on the 310 and it is a b!tch to get back off with a loader bolted down over the sheet metal.

I think I'll just mount the noisy pump on the 311b and see how it sounds. At least I don't have to pull the dist off on that one, just one side panel.

Hope your test run is successful.

Joe
