I'm rebuilding a motor (as many of you already know). Now, I'm replacing more on this motor than I had originally thought I would be, but it allows me to keep using my tractor while I rebuild this extra motor, and I keep telling myself that now's not the time to take a shortcut.

Question is, how much could I get for a G159 motor once I pull it out? Assuming the crankshaft journals are good, everything else is rebuildable. I sure would like to offset my costs. Or do you feel it's worth keeping the engine as a spare for that day down the road when I wish I had? Could I sell the crankshaft for a few bucks?

I guess I fishing around for what you folks have seen go in the last couple years. I'm tempted to rebuild the second motor, but with about $1000 in parts possibly, does it become a $2000 good-as-new motor (that I won't feel like ripping my tractor apart to test), or should the next guy do his own rebuild and feel better about it?

If you really do the job right. Somebody will get a great deal and you'll be lucky if you break even on your core value & parts. Thats my two cents.
Best, Dennis.....
