On the turque tube in from of the brake pedal, this VAI has a valve mounted. Can this valve be used to add a remote for hydraulics? I have a '48 VAC which has the high pressure hydraulic pump by the belt pully, vs this one has the low pressure pump ran off the front of the engine. Which is better for using a hydraulic cylinder like for a logsplitter or for rigging a three point hitch using a hydraulic cylinder? Which one will create more volume? Would the hydraulics be set up for an open center valve or closed? I need help to find out what others have done. I don't even know why one system is high pressure and one is low. What's the difference and why? I would assume that the later hydraulic system better, but it doesn't sound right that it is the "low pressure" system. Thanks

I changed out the low pressure pump, mine was bad, with a 2 stage combine pump. I use the power steering side for 3-point and the other side for remotes. Works great but not as fast as the 830.
You will need a larger cylinder if you use the existing low pressure pump. 3.14159*radius squared*psi/2000 = Tons

My understanding is that the high pressure pump (i.e. the one run off of the pulley - found prior to 1949 I believe) is not good for running modern hydraulic cylinders. However, the low pressure pump (run off the front of the engine like the one in the photo you posted) is a higher volume pump that will work with modern hydraulic cylinders.
I also understand (from others who have tried this) that it is NOT an easy "switch" to change from the old high pressure style to the new low pressure style.

LP pump was rated at 7 gpm @ engine 1425 rpm. Set pressure for the relief valve in the control valve is 800-850 psi. Can't tell for sure by the pix, but appears to be a single acting control valve on that tractor.

This was updated to set the relief at 900-1000psi about 1950.

Hi MJ, Eagle hitch control block relief is set 900-1000 psi and remote control valve is 800-850 in my manual dtd 2-54.

You've done the guys a great service in posting the manual.

Thanks for the kudos and Roger on the psi settings.

You would want to use the low pressure pump running off the front of the engine. the HP pump produces about 4500lbs of pressure but little volume.
