Are you sure sc's never came from factory without magnetos?. I've seen regular distributors on them, some are vertical, and I've seen horizontal ones as well, unless these are off of h's or m's. If I can use on off an h or m will it fit right in and bolt up? I've heard this conversion is easy to do. Also, I suppose the old mag is fine, but i'm not quite sure how to get It timed right. Those two little fiber gears have a red dot on the small one and a notch on the bigger one and I lined them up, but it dosen;t make sense to me because since they are different size after one rotation they are off. Maybe also you could tell me how to get the mag set up right. I know forsure it works because I had it apart to tune up the tractor, and I put in a new condenser, And now just cant get it to start. Thanks for replying earlier. Bear with me i'm a young guy. Thanks josh K

Josh, we've got a couple of SC's & DC's that we've used delco right-angled mags on. (The right-angled delcos give you more room than the horizontal ones do, but the IH horizontal ones will work, too.) The conversion is easy & we haven't had any trouble getting parts for them. IH sold them as "after-market" conversions for H's & probably all the letter series. I know that for a fact, as we converted a couple of H's when the mags went bad back in the 1950's. We bought them directly from our local IH dealer. (It was less costly to put on a new distributor at the time than it was to fix the mag.) They bolt right up to SC's & DC's. If you are not concerned about keeping the tractor original, they work great. Its been a while since we did one, but if I remember right, I think the rotation of the distributor is opposite of the mag, so you have to change the wires accordingly. The reason that we've changed our working tractors over to distributors is because we've got a couple of Case mags that will probably work, but the caps are busted & we can't find replacement caps in our part of the world. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Hey Josh: None of the SC or DC Parts Books that I have show a Dist. Besides, if I was wrong about Dist's on SC's, in the earlier Post, the guys would have jumped all over me. I'd be happy to look @ the Mag if you wanted to send it. It would cost you Postage both ways is all. Do you know the correct procedure to install the Mag? I think the Owners Man. spells it out. It is easier with a Seasoned Veteran there to help. Good Luck.
