Found a crack across a Rod Journal on the Crank out of our 630 Diesel. It runs across the journal, through the oil hole. Too deep to "Turn" out. Can this be welded? Will it last or is this Crank junk? Thanks.

John, the crank will be great for a trotline weight if you fish, but not to put back in your tractor. A Case 430, 530 and 630 all have a 188ci diesel in them and I would go that route.

I agree with Jerry. Remember all the force is at the rod journal when the piston comes down and pushes the Rod. Try to find a new crankshaft if possible.

Unless technology has changed from when I ground cranks 30 years ago, I would consider it junk. That type of crack usually occurs on a journal that has previously spun a bearing and got hot and stressed.
