I can get a rebuilt magneto for $200us. Is there a cheaper way to get this thing running? How about electronic ignition

If you are looking for something that will function & don't care to keep it original, we've used Delco right angle distributors from AC's & Farmalls on a couple of SC's & DC's when the mags went bad. (Tough to find parts for Case mags.) They bolt right up, work good & parts are easy to come by-most IH dealers keep them in stock, as they were "after market" parts & were sold by IH. The right angle Delco's have more room near the oil filter than the horizontal IH distributors, but they will work too, as the mounting flanges are all the same. If your S has been converted to 12V, all you have to do is make sure your coil is a 12V coil. If I remember right, the rotation is oposite from the mag, but chainging the plug wires into the correct order fixes that problem. The last one we did like that was less than a $50(US) bill w/new coil, points, condenser, rotor & cap, including a salvage yard distributor. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
