Does anybody know what kind of chore it would be to change the axle seals? I've never done it.

I did the ones on my 400 a few years ago, look like about the same design. Most imprtant thing is to make sure tractor is securly blocked up so that when you remove the rear wheel nothing shifts and hurts someone. Another tractor with a hi-lift or maybe a portable engine crane would be good to lift the rear wheel while you slide it off the axle. On the 400 there are 6 capscrews that held the seal retainer on, remove those and use a screwdriver to pry loose. Seal is a light press fit in that. You may need a speedy sleeve if the axle shaft is grooved where the old seal rubbed, I just drove the new seal in a little further to make the lip contact in a different spot. Be careful, take you time and enjoy.
