Anyone know the procedure for replacing the clutch throwout shaft oil seal. (This is the seal to the shaft that the clutch lever and clutch throwout arm are attached). Can it be done without taking the shaft out?

It can be done with the shaft in place. Remove the lever on the left side of the shaft, the brake assy on the right side and both covers. Drill a small hole in the seal, screw in a sheet metal screw and pull the seal out with a claw hammer or something on that order. Sometimes screwing the sheet metal screw through the seal will force the seal out too. You may need to try it a couple times, but the seal will come out. before installing the new seal, be sure to dress down any burrs on the shaft, especially near the keys, maybe even wrap any rough areas with some tape to avoid scratching or cutting the new seal on the way in. Find a piece of tubing that is really close th the OD of the seal to drive the new ones in. Reassemble, adjust and you're done. Bruce

Bruce,
Met you at the Nowthen Tractor Show.
Thanks for the information. Sounds like a simple procedure, but nothing is simple if you don't know what to do. I'll give this a whirl. I have a leak around the shims behind the belt pulley too. I loosened the three bolts and slid the flanged bearing carrier out and put RTV all around it. Have yet to see if that will do the trick. Could not get the belt pulley off. Tried with a bottle jack and chain, but it wouldn't budge. The shaft seal is not leaking so don't think I need to remove it unless I can't get the leak stopped. Such fun--my wife can't understand the obsession!!!!
