Hi

What is the procedure for adjusting the valves on a Case 300 with just one revolution of the engine. What valves can I adjust with #1 at TDC and what ones at #2. Thanks

Matt

The normal one revolution valve lash set for a 4 cycle, 4 cylinder engine with firing order 1-3-4-2.:

#1 TDC (on compression stroke) set lash: #1 I & E, #2 I, and #3 E.

Turn crank 1 full rev puts #4 TDC (on compression stroke) set lash: #2 E, #3 I, and #4 I & E.

I've done this on more diesel engines than I care to count but get a better set on older gas engines by doing the lash adjustment with piston near TDC on each cylinder.

The fastest set I can do is with #1 TDC, points open, set lash I & E. Turn crank 180 degs until points open on #3 set I & E, and continue in the firing order. That is only 2 revolutions and you don't have to waste time trying to catch the piston near TDC as viewed via the spark plug hole.
