Recently purchased a 930CK diesel and the wiring is a mess. Could someone give me a quick rundown of what wires should go where from the regulator? Also, does anyone have any pointers for changing to an alternator? What kind to use, mounting bracket advice, etc.
Thanks

Ray, I have no Case wiring diagrams, but if its a Class A Delco charging system, the Genny and VR wire as follows:

BAT terminal on VR wires up to the Load (NOT to battery/starter) side of an ammeter (if it has one). Thats the side of the ammeter which also has the feed wire to loads like lights. The other side of the ammeter often has but one wire, and thats the hot voltage feed to the battery often via the starter swith or solenoid where the big cable attaches.

ARM terminal on VR wires to the Arm post on the genny

FLD terminal on the VR wires to the Fld post on the genny.

If you used a true One Wire Alternator (those are mosly Negative ground you know, so it would need converted to neg ground if its not already)its big main output terminal would connect to the ammeters load side. If you used a GM 10 SI 3 wire alternator that takes a bit more wiring.
