I began hearing a loud clunk coming from the rear end of my case loader tractor. It increased in frequency as the speed of the tractor increased. It acted like a gear was catching on each revolution. Yesterday, the left wheel locked up and now the tractor will only move a little way in reverse or forward. Ring gear? What do y'all think.

I believe Jim is on track. You have a broken bull or pinion gear. DO NOT drive the tractor or you may end up bustin' cast iron. Pay attention to replacement gears. There were two or three versions of gears. If I recall correctly they have the same number of teeth but slightly different diameter (+- 1/32"). I replaced mine with a matched set. I still have the old bull gear.

It's probably a tooth broken off one of the differential stub shaft gears. Probably the easiest thing to do is drain the transaxle and take that rear cover off and look around.

If its once per revolution it a bull gear, if its more it a pinion.

Easy fix. I think you have to drop the transaxle (I did on mine) a bit to get it out if you go in through the top. I have been told you can get it out the back but that looked like too much hard work.

They were different across some of the models. Mine had a E turbo transaxle in a D, and when I bought a D bull gear it didnt fit. It was noticable different in thickness as well. Took a while to work out what was going on and I was no help to the guy who was sourcing them for me as I was totally new to the backhoe game.
